IMPORT EXPORT is pleased to announce the opening of “Die oftener" by Anna Pakosz at Salon by IMPORT EXPORT in London.

Anna Pakosz (b. 1991, Budapest) roots her practice in a post-communist Eastern European context, as a form of reclamation. She is interested in how materials carry emotion and resist fixed meaning.

Anna’s work begins with an urge to touch, move, and transform. She works with large, unstretched fabrics that circulate between domestic, outdoor, and studio spaces. Traditional techniques are disrupted and reimagined through porous surfaces, bleach, and rust. An ever-expanding relationship with tools and techniques helping maintain a “beginner’s mind,” where ego yields to practicality and expression.

Her gestures are kinetic: direct, urgent responses to what the surface demands, involving the whole body. Charged with different rhythms, each painting records multiple encounters, physical discharges of energy layered over time. This flux between slow and fast, alchemical and painterly, accidental and intentional, is what keeps the practice alive, a cycle of control and surrender.

By shifting perspectives often, Anna notices assumptions about the work, about art, about the world. Questioning what holds value opens space for greater inclusion and new possibilities. In this way, the paintings keep teaching her how to listen.

"Die oftener spent a long time in my studio, occasionally resurfacing and inviting another engagement. The screen printing, rust prints and dye marks happened at different moments in time, with long periods in between when the work was put aside, almost forgotten." - Anna Pakosz, 2026.

The painting gradually accumulated these different encounters, without a predetermined direction or urgency to resolve it. It became an exercise in stepping back, allowing things to unfold, and letting go.
