Clouded by Masha Silchenko

30 June - 15 September 2022

“The sky is extremely clouded since the explosions last night and my mind is clouded today, is what you told me, when we last talked on the phone ... This sentiment can point towards a  state of mind or the sky, in this case, both.”

Clouded  by Aline Sofie Rainer (excerpt)

Import Export is excited to present “Clouded” – a solo exhibition by Paris-based, Odesa-born artist Masha Silchenko (b. 1993). Click here for CV.

Having recently graduated from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Silchenko is currently completing a studio residency at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. During her studies, she also completed a year-long exchange at the Geidai Tokyo University of the Arts, where she practised in a traditional pottery studio.

The unconventional training, together with the erudition in art, literature, music and systems of beliefs, allowed Silchenko to develop a singular method that escapes medium-based classifications. By juxtaposing lyrical narratives – poetry, songs, tales – with experimental gestures (of bleaching, erasing, void-creation), Silchenko formulated her own language of expression related to love, loss and longing.

“Clouded” at Import Export brings together a collection of paintings, sculptures, ceramic installations and drawings selected by the artist.

Accompanying Silchenko’s works are sound improvisations from fellow artists Aline Sofie Rainer, Aram Abbas and Björn Eichhorn, streamed in the gallery.

Completing “Clouded” is an essay of the same title by Rainer, which you will find here.

W trakcie studiów ukończyła również roczną wymianę na Geidai Tokyo University of the Arts, gdzie praktykowała w tradycyjnej pracowni garncarskiej.

„Clouded” to zbiór wybranych przez artystkę obrazów, rzeźb, instalacji ceramicznych i rysunków. Pracom Silchenko towarzyszą improwizacje dźwiękowe Aline Sofie Rainer, Arama Abbasa i Björna Eichhorna, transmitowane w galerii.
